Hoag Urgent Care FAQs:
Can I get antibiotics?
Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections. They will not help a viral infection. Your provider will asses your situation and will prescribe antibiotics only when medically appropriate.
Taking an antibiotic unnecessarily involves risk. First, antibiotics can produce side effects. Second, and more importantly, overuse of antibiotics makes them less effective when you really need them.
Patient satisfaction is one of our highest priorities and we want you to be happy with the care you receive, however, a high-quality medical provider will always do what is in your best interest and protect your health and well-being, even when you do not agree.
How do I get a prescription refilled?
Prescription Refills
Prescriptions can not be refilled through an urgent care without an additional visit. If your primary care provider is unavailable or out of town, you will need to come in for an urgent care visit and you will need to be evaluated by our provider but a refill is not guaranteed depending on the reason for usage and the provider’s evaluation.
If you need a prescription refill from your primary care doctor please do the following:
1. The fastest way to request a prescription refill is to CONTACT YOUR PHARMACY. We are electronically linked to your pharmacy and the request will automatically be expedited.
2. Alternatively, you can use you Hoag Connect Account to request a prescription refill.

- Who should get a flu vaccine?
All children between the ages of 6 months to 5 years. - Adults age 65 and over.
- Individuals age 2 to 64 with underlying chronic medical conditions.

When should I get a flu vaccine?
The influenza vaccine is recommended during flu season, usually between October through March every year. Please obtain the vaccine early to attain maximum benefit. For children and infants who are obtaining the flu vaccine for the first time, two vaccine doses spaced at least one month apart are given.
Is the flu vaccine safe?
Most people experience no side effects from the injected influenza vaccine. Less than one-third of those who receive the vaccine will have some soreness at the vaccination site, and about 5% to 10% will experience a headache or a mild fever.
The most serious side effect that can occur after an influenza vaccination is an allergic reaction in individuals who have a severe allergy to eggs. For that reason, people who have an allergy to eggs should not receive the influenza vaccine.
